Natural Gas Vehicle Cooperative Purchase Program Launches
August 23rd, 2010 - CALSTART is partnering with other NGV stakeholders to create a Natural Gas Vehicle Cooperative Purchase Program (the Cooperative) to coordinate the high volume purchase of light- and medium-duty vehicles by public and private fleets. The Cooperative will assist fleets in “greening” their fleets with cleaner alternative fuel vehicles at affordable prices. It addition, the Cooperative wants to aggregate large enough numbers to incentivize dealers and manufacturers to not only participate in the Cooperative, but help them expand the market for these vehicles. It is proposed to conduct this program mostly within California, but including Arizona and Nevada to increase potential demand, with the possibility of expanding it beyond these states if this effort is successful and if there is funding available.

Clean Fuel Station Open For Business in Commerce
August 12th, 2010 - When the city of Commerce opened up its natural gas fueling station for business last week, it made life a little easier for port truck-drivers like 50-year old Aroldo Argueta, one of the thousand commercial goods haulers just getting the hang of their new, environmentally-friendly, “clean fuel” trucks.

Culver City, California Adds First CNG Paratransit Buses
August 9th, 2010 - The City of Culver City has taken delivery of its first dedicated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered paratransit buses. The three new buses operate on clean-burning natural gas to further compliment the City's growing fleet and dedication to CNG-powered vehicles. They replace three ten-year-old gasoline-powered buses.

City of Commerce Opens Natural Gas Fueling Station
August 9th, 2010 - The City of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting grand opening celebration for its new CNG/LNG fueling station on August 5. That station will be used to fuel the city's fleet of natural gas vehicles, including seven full-size transit buses, four paratransit vans, and two smaller fleet vehicles. In addition, it will service LNG port trucks and will be open to the general public 24 hours per day.

AT&T Rolls Out 2,000th Alternative Fuel Vehicle and 1,500th Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle in Its Corporate Fleet
July 14th, 2010 - AT&T today announced the deployment of the 2,000th alternative fuel vehicle and 1,500th compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle in its corporate vehicle fleet, giving it one of the largest CNG vehicle fleets in the U.S. These milestones are part of a $565 million planned investment announced in March 2009 to replace more than 15,000 fleet vehicles with alternative fuel models through 2018. Currently, the AT&T corporate fleet includes more than 75,900 vehicles.

Clean Energy secures 10-year contract with L.A. Transit
June 29th, 2010 - Seal Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has landed a 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Transit Authority – commonly referred to as METRO – to upgrade, operate and maintain compressed natural gas bus-fueling facilities in the agency’s Central and South Bay divisions. Clean Energy – the leading provider of compressed natural gas, or CNG, for transportation in North America – will update station compressor equipment at the facilities that provide alternative fuel to the agency's fleets operating in the two divisions. The total fuel requirement for these divisions is projected to reach more than 9 million gallons annually.

EPA May Ease National Gas Conversion Rules
June 25th, 2010 - The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a proposed rulemaking to change the certification requirements for natural gas vehicle aftermarket conversions. Under the proposed rulemaking, the agency would approve systems for use on vehicles older than two years, but would not require the Certificate of Conformity for these vehicles. In addition, the agency has also proposed three potential options for engines that have exceeded their regulatory useful life.

Alternative Fuel Vehicles Will Feature Seating with Three-Point Restraints for Enhanced Safety
June 24th, 2010 - The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has purchased 130 Saf-T-LinerHDX compressed natural gas (CNG) school buses from market-leader Thomas Built Buses. Introduced more than 10 years ago, Thomas Built CNG buses exceed California emission standards, among the toughest in the country. The state of California was the first in the nation to require lap-shoulder belt seating. To meet that requirement, all 130 of the environmentally-friendly buses will be equipped with SafeGuardseats, a product of IMMI.

47 Buses Go Green, SB District to use Natural Gas
June 19th, 2010 - They will still be yellow on the outside, officials say, but school buses are about to get greener on the inside. Starting July 1, San Bernardino City Unified School District will deploy 47 school buses fueled by cleaner compressed natural gas in its new fleet of 280 school buses. Arturo Delgado, district superintendent, said he "believes new features ... will help ensure student safety. "We are looking forward to having our students ride in new buses equipped with some of the latest technology," Delgado said. "It will help ensure students arrive at school on time and ready to learn."
