House Introduces New & Improved NGV RDD&D Bill
July 2007 - HR 2877, introduced by Representatives John Sullivan (R-OK), Edolphus Towns (D-NY) and Ralph Hall (R-TX), reauthorizes a new natural gas vehicle (NGV) research, development, demonstration and deployment (RDD&D) program at the Department of Energy (DOE) for a five-year period at $20 million per year. In 1992, the Energy Policy Act directed DOE to carry out a similar program, but due to several obstacles the Department has not progressed in the NGV RDD&D arena in several years. HR 2877 has not only resurrected this program, it has updated it as well: the legislation directs the DOE to develop cleaner and more efficient NGV engines, in addition to improvements in vehicle platforms, fueling infrastructure and the development of codes and standards.
NGV Institute Offers CNG Cylinder Inspection Class
July 2007 - The Natural Gas Vehicle Institute (NGVi) is offering an NGV Fuel Storage Cylinder Inspection Safety Training Course September 18-19, 2007 at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas. The course will train participants to determine whether a CNG cylinder is safe, and CSA America’s certification exam will be offered at the end of the session. The demand for certified inspectors has risen along with standards related to CNG safety and inspection procedures, making this training course especially pertinent. The DOE has offered scholarship money to pay for the training and exam; for more information, please click here.
